Corporate Accounting Specialist

Valero Energy Corporation, through its subsidiaries, is an international manufacturer and marketer of transportation fuels, petrochemical products and power. Valero subsidiaries employ approximately 10,000 people, and assets include 15 petroleum refineries with a combined throughput capacity of approximately 3 million barrels per day, 11 ethanol plants with a combined production capacity of 1.4 billion gallons per year, and a 50-megawatt wind farm.

Under minimal supervision, the primary responsibilities of this position includes creating and posting of highly complex month-end journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, creating management reports, and reviewing administrative expenses.

• Creates and posts highly complex month-end journal entries (i.e., allocation of incentive compensation to business units, consolidation of majority owned joint ventures, elimination entries, other comprehensive income and closing duties related to VLP Master Limited Partnership).
• Primary responsibility in closing the monthly books of the Master Limited Partnership.
• Completes income statement and balance sheet reports issued by the area.
• Reviews balance sheet accounts during month-end close and analyzes Valero’s elimination companies to understand how they are utilized to create consolidated financial statements.
• Completes reports (i.e., reports for the Controller’s binder and Prepared by Client reports for Valero’s external auditors) as part of quarterly or year-end reporting.
• Reviews and reports the impact of expenses to management (i.e., administrative, foreign exchange gains and losses, RINS, and other environmental regulations).
• Assists and completes various ad-hoc reports and special projects, including the accounting for acquisitions and divestitures.
• Reconciles assigned general ledger accounts on a monthly basis.

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Accounting required.
• Minimum of five years of accounting experience, equivalent public accounting, and/or auditing experience required.
• Experience in refining industry preferred.
• CPA preferred or actively pursuing a CPA preferred.
