Live With Purpose is New York’s soon-to-launch marketplace for Jewish volunteerism.

It will be a communitywide platform for engagement that allows New Yorkers to channel their passions into social action and sign up for volunteer activities.

It will also be a way to stay connected to the New York Jewish community through volunteering — both online and in real time.

UJA-Federation seeks a talented and creative individual with strong project management, content strategy, and writing skills to manage the development and implementation of the Live With Purpose web platform launching in April 2016.

The Community Manager will be a key player on our dynamic new team dedicated to galvanizing the Jewish community to serve in unprecedented numbers — and in ways that leverage volunteers’ skills and interests to address critical needs in the New York region.

The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with an entrepreneurial mindset, a passion for volunteering and civic engagement, and an appetite for working in a start-up environment within an established nonprofit.
Major Responsibilities

Prior to the launch of the web platform, the Community Manager will be responsible for coordinating the work of the web development team, overseeing the creation of content for the platform, and ensuring that a diverse inventory of volunteer opportunities is available in time for the launch.

He/she will also work closely with UJA-Federation’s network nonprofits to ensure that the platform meets their needs and that staff are trained and prepared to use it to its fullest potential.

Post-launch, the Community Manager will oversee ongoing website operations, which will include:

Developing, writing, executing, and curating content for the Live With Purpose web platform.

Serving as a liaison to UJA-Federation beneficiary agencies to ensure that a diverse array of new volunteer opportunities is continually added to the site.

Moderating and responding to content posted to the Live With Purpose website by the community.

Ensuring that volunteers and agencies that require assistance with the Live With Purpose website receive an accurate and timely response.

Leveraging analytics to continuously improve web content and user experience.

Partnering with UJA-Federation’s Marketing & Communications department to plan and implement targeted marketing campaigns focusing on volunteer engagement.

Partnering with internal and external stakeholders (UJA-Federation staff, lay leaders, and volunteers as well as network agency staff) to ensure that UJA-Federation’s goals and objectives for the site are achieved.
- Savvy project manager/leader: A smart and strategic leader (with a track record of managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders from conception to completion.
- Digital project management experience strongly preferred.
- A deft communicator: Proven written and verbal communication skills and an ability to write in a friendly, engaging, fresh, colloquial/conversational voice.
- Clear understanding of information flow/user experience as it relates to web content.
- Technically proficient: Strong technical skills or high level of comfort/aptitude with technology products and willingness to learn new technology.
- Experience using content management systems (like Wordpress, Drupal, etc.) a plus.
- Agile: Basic familiarity with HTML and CSS and/or a desire to learn.
- Results-driven: Proven ability to leverage analytics to optimize programming for increased success.
- A college graduate: Bachelor’s degree, with at least two years of experience in the field.
- Passionate: Fueled by a passion for volunteer service and social action.
