**Physical Demands**
* Ability to safely perform repetitive bending, stooping, sitting, squatting, walking, standing during 8-10 hr. day. Normal duties involve lifting (up to 35 pounds without equipment), transferring patients, and pushing wheelchairs up to 500 feet.
* Sufficient dexterity and strength to perform standard duties including patient care, treatments, documentation and equipment use.
**Communication / Interpersonal Skills**
* Ability to effectively communicate with patients and staff from varied cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
* Skill in making appropriate and effective decisions based on needs of the patient, priorities of the department, and the Medical Center and Department Policies and Procedures.
* Ability to work as a member of a team, including sharing knowledge, giving/receiving feedback, taking initiative to assist others, problem solving, providing an atmosphere conducive to learning.
* Ability to assign and supervise the performance of appropriate treatment within the technical and legal capabilities of support personnel.
* Familiarity with basic computer functions such as word processing and basic on-line mail systems.
**Education / Licensure / Certification**
* Licensure /certification as a OT, or eligibility to work as such.
* Current CPR card.
* CCS Paneling if working with patients 0-21 years in outpatient CCS clinic.
* Must work under the supervision of a CCS therapist if not CCS paneled, when working with patients 0-21R
**Patient Care**
* Experience working as a hand therapist in an outpatient hand therapy setting is required.
* Prefer a candidate working toward Certified Hand Therapist.
* Demonstrates knowledge of etiology, course, prognosis, and manifestations of a wide variety of disease processes.
* Demonstrates ability to establish a clinical impression and patient problem list for patients with a wide variety of disease processes with appropriate indications/contraindications for treatment.
* Demonstrates ability to establish an appropriate treatment plan, select appropriate treatment techniques, assess the results based upon synthesis of all available information, and the patients' functional goals, with changes in the plan and timely discharge as indicated.
* Ability to perform a wide variety of treatment techniques, consistently and accurately
* Ability to effectively and appropriately document patient care activities according to department requirements.
* Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with patients, caregivers, referring practitioners, peers, management and other health care practitioners.
* Ability to identify the need for and utilize appropriate safety and emergency techniques, including CPR, stabilizing equipment, water safety, infection control, care of patient lifelines, and requesting assistance.
* Ability to recognize the need for and request assistance.

**Department Maintenance**
* Ability to clean & maintain treatment area, equipment, and supplies.
* Ability to assign and supervise treatments within the technical and legal capabilities of support staff
* Ability to provide an environment conducive to safe, quality patient care by using proper body mechanics, providing timely communication, removal of defective equipment, and suitable response to emergency situations and/or identification of potential problem situations.
