Summary

The University Library consists of the Peter J. Shields Library, the Carlson Health Sciences Library and the Physical Sciences & Engineering Library in Davis, and the Blaisdell Medical Library in Sacramento.

Under general direction of the Director of Development for the Library, the Associate Director of Communication and Marketing is responsible for shaping the Library's ongoing strategies for institutional communication and public relations, connecting the UC Davis University Library to a variety of university and external communities.

Responsibilities

Leads the Library's communication and marketing program and works collaboratively with colleagues throughout the Library and the university to further position the UC Davis Library as a leader and innovator in supporting research, education, patient care, and service.

Ideal Candidate

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or other relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Minimum of 5 years' experience performing a broad range of communications activities, including creating a strategic communications plan, identifying audiences, crafting targeted messages, selecting appropriate media and assessing success.

• Skill to initiate and maintain cooperative working relationships with all levels of persons both in- and outside the Library, and to work in a highly matrixed, team-oriented environment.

• Knowledge and proven experience working with a wide variety of digital media including web and social media.

• Experience overseeing production and design of publications and web-based content.

• Skills to analyze complex issues, perform research, conduct interviews.

• Experience using writing, editing and proofreading skills to compose with clarity, accuracy, and appropriate style; translating library and technical jargon and issues into stories, articles, reports, presentations, press releases, and other forms; writing for various communications channels and media, both print and electronic; reviewing materials written by others; and oral presentation.

• Experience developing and managing a budget, and program evaluation.

• Experience assessing, hiring, and managing outside vendors and contract staff.

• Leadership, analytical, and project management skills.

• Skills in goal-setting and goal-attainment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of desktop publishing and graphic design programs.

• Familiarity with higher education or academic research libraries, archives, or museums or other cultural institutions

• Knowledge of website design.

Compensation and Working Conditions
Annual Pay $50,122 - $10,075
