Our new property is looking for a true drink aficionado and passionate storyteller to serve as Executive Editor and help build the leading spirits-based site in North America! The Executive Editor will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of a full editorial team including editors, writers, support staff, and a contributor network. Working closely with the Editor-In-Chief, (s)he will be tasked with identifying and creating content that resonates beyond the niche audience of spirits enthusiasts, with primary KPI being unique visitors on site.
Responsibilities include creating and maintaining a thoughtful editorial calendar; leading pitch meetings and assigning stories across full-time writing staff and freelance contributors; developing the site’s unique brand of storytelling and ensuring top-line editorial quality; generating an evergreen and service content strategy to build industry-leading search traffic; creating and supporting social content strategy in tandem with Social Media and Promotions Lead; and leading weekly data meetings with entire team to inform content decisions.
- Oversee top-level content quality across the site, ensuring all content meets property guidelines and creates a safe environment for potential advertisers
- Define the property through storytelling and build a destination with a unique voice in the marketplace
- Lead pitch meetings and assign all stories across the internal team and freelancers
- Achieve clearly established annual goals for average monthly uniques on site
- Create thoughtful and reliable three, six, and twelve month editorial calendars
- Work with Managing Editor to ensure all major deadlines are hit
- Work with Freelance Coordinator to build and maintain a deep bullpen of high-quality contributors
- Leverage contacts to help build support and gain contributions from the industry
- Lead weekly data meetings with editorial team to inform content creation
- Manage operations to established annual production budget
- Build the new property into the leading voice on spirits in North America
- Work closely with TMG senior management in achieving all of the above
- Requires a Bachelor's Degree and 5-7 years experience in digital publishing
- Proven track record with hiring, developing and leading an editorial team, including minimum of 2 years experience managing both fulltime staff and contributor network
- Formidable spirits category expertise and insight, plus a large rolodex of distillers, brand ambassadors, bartenders, writers and other industry insiders
- Experience identifying fascinating stories not only within the spirits space, but across all editorial verticals
- Demonstrated experience in tying data insights to editorial output
- Team player with the ability delegate tasks effectively while maintaining a watchful eye on quality
- An unmatched passion for the world of spirits and storytelling
