- Assists staff nurse and/or LVN in treatment procedures.
- Helps prepare Unit, patient's room and bed for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patient, transfer or emergency situation.
- Provides morning care (bed, bathes, changes bed linen, dresses patient) and evening care (back rubs, freshens bed linen, undresses patient), other personal hygiene and general care throughout the day.
- Accurately takes and records temperature pulse, blood pressure, respiration, weight and height.
- Measures and records intake and output and percent of meals eaten.
- Assists with pre-operative and post-operative care.

Prepares patients for meals:
- Distributes food trays
- Assists or feeds patients
- Removes food trays
- Distributes drinking water and other nourishment
- Provides postmortem care and assists in transporting body to morgue.
- Makes rounds to assigned patients, anticipates patient's needs and answers/responds to patient call lights or paging.
PATIENTCARE RELATED ACTIVITES:
- Transports patients to and from various areas.
- Collects specimens and transports same to proper areas,
- Reports and records as necessary any change observed in condition or behavior of patient; contributes to nursing care plan.
- Cleans equipment and prepares it for disinfection.
- Receives inventories and stocks supplies as appropriate.
- Attends in-service education programs as assigned to learn new treatments,
Unit Secretary
- Acts as a focus of communication in the Nursing Station regarding patient care activities and locations. Provides information of same.
- Receives, greets and directs physicians, patients, visitors and hospital personnel arriving to or calling the Nursing Unit.
- Receives requests from physicians, patients, visitors and families and refers requests to appropriate Nursing staff.
- Answers telephone in a courteous and helpful manner.
- Calls physicians and ancillary departments as directed.
- Answers call lights within 3 rings at the desk and communicates patient requests to appropriate Nursing Staff.
- Maintains a clean, safe and functional working environment.
- Maintains adequate quantity of forms, materials, supplies and equipment inventory on assigned unit.
- 9 Maintains assignment, bulletin board, census board and other communication media.
PATIENT RECORD/CHART ACTIVITY
- Initiates, assembles and maintains charts in correct order for all patients. hospital and Unit policy.
- Transcribes physicians' orders; initiates all necessary forms, requisitions and communications necessary to implement orders including patient kardex and computer order entry.
- Files diagnostic and laboratory reports in appropriate, functional order as prescribed by
- Monitors location of charts at all times and prepares the transfer of medical records upon discharge or expiration of the patient.
- Assists with patient's transfer by assembling chart to accompany patient.
- Assists with preparation of chart for patients going to surgery by checking charts fort completeness.
- Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience as nurse assistant.
- Preferred Skills and Abilities: Recent acute care experience as a nursing assistant and ward secretary. Basic knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in bedside patient care.
