Insurance / Reinsurance Accountant

Insurance or reinsurance accountant with background maintaining general ledger accounts, reports, and financial statements. Shall analyze general ledger accounts and maintain adherence to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and SAP (Statutory Accounting Principles) as well other legal and regulatory requirements. Partners with senior and line management to review the financial tools to support business decisions and achieve company financial goals.

• Review and analyze premium accounts, statements, and reconciliations sent to reinsurers.
• Reconcile assumed and ceded contracts.
• Create and send monthly/quarterly reinsurance statements and billing.
• Process premium payments.
• Approve cash disbursements, monitor accounts receivable and payable balances.
• Review treaty and proportional account coding, receipt, and disbursements.
• Performs full-cycle accounting in accordance with GAAP/STAT to include preparation and appropriate documentation of journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, preparation of sub-ledgers that tie to trial balance accounts, and preparation of financial statements.

• Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university, Accounting or finance degree preferred
• Five (5) to seven (7) years of accounting experience
• Four (4) years of P&C Insurance or Reinsurance Accounting experience required.
• Full cycle accounting required
• Bilingual in English and Spanish required
