The Development Senior Manager is responsible for raising annual income from mid-level and lower-range donors and foundation grants. This includes short-term and long-term planning to create a comprehensive annual fundraising program, including outreach strategies for new individual and foundation donor prospects. It is expected that this position will be familiar with and employ current trends and new approaches in Annual Giving and Grant cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
The Development Senior Manager supervises the Database Manager, Annual Giving Coordinator and Grant Writer. The Development Associate/Gift Processor and Receptionist report to the Database Manager and, therefore, are part of the overall team under the Development Senior Manager (three direct and two indirect reports). This position shares responsibilities in all fundraising efforts on behalf of St. Anthony’s in accordance with our Statement of Values.
Responsibilities
- Manage the Annual Giving program, which includes developing and managing direct mail and email appeals, mass solicitation and cultivation materials, and donor correspondence. Oversight includes supervision of Annual Giving Coordinator.
- Manage the Grant program: supervises Grant Writer in the timely development of grant proposals, budgets, and reports in collaboration with St. Anthony’s program managers. Additionally, this position will engage and manage occasional contract writers in foundation prospect research and specialty grant writing projects.
- With assistance of the Database Manager and related staff, track Annual Giving appeal and Grant income, recommend and implement methods to improve income reporting, develop pertinent reports to address funding trends and projections, and maintain healthy, updated database.
- Provide pertinent reports to St. Anthony’s Board of Directors, Development and Outreach Committee and, as appropriate, to internal groups. Coordinate and host individual and foundation donor visits with St. Anthony’s staff.
- Develop an annual budget for her/his work units. Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward mid-level donors and those rated likely to become mid-level donors through targeted approach.
- Work closely with Development and Outreach Department Director and Managers on all fundraising and communication strategies. Serve as a member of the management team and participate in selected program and other job related internal meetings.
- Adhere to guidelines of St. Anthony’s Safety Program and comply with SAF’s Statement of Values. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Five years experience in fundraising for a nonprofit organization with emphasis on annual giving planning and management and grant writing.
- BA or equivalent work experience. Experience working in social services preferred.
- Advanced degree is desirable.
- Excellent written communication skills: must be a meticulous editor with sensitivity to nuances of language; ability to develop strong case for support.
- Strong inter-personal, listening, verbal and public speaking skills.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills; ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines, exercise good judgment, delegate appropriately and motivate others.
- Thrive in team environment and work collaboratively.
- Ability to effectively develop and manage budgets and resources.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite is required.
- Expertise in development database software, Raiser’s Edge database preferred.
- Available to work on selected holidays, weekends, and evenings, in turn with other staff.
- An understanding and commitment to social justice issues and St. Anthony's Statement of Values.
