Software Engineer, Performance Data Analytics

SolarCity is an American provider of energy services, headquartered in San Mateo, California. Among its primary services, the company designs, finances and installs solar power systems, performs energy efficiency audits and retrofits and builds charging stations for electric vehicles.

• Model interaction of solar, energy storage, and load with the grid
• Research and develop algorithms for energy systems including solar forecasting, battery dispatch, smart inverter control, and load management
• Implement algorithms and analysis tools in Python and Excel for reporting results
• Write database queries and analyze energy system field performance data
• Act as the primary interface to utility, academic and government entities working on related problems. Provide raw data, guidance and feedback
• Publish results as white papers and speak publicly as appropriate to support SolarCity’s goal of widespread deployment of renewables

• B.A. or B.S. to relevant field is required
• 3-5 years of relevant experience required
• A solid background in engineering mathematics, statistics, physics, and basic electrical and mechanical engineering concepts.
• Extensive experience with SQL database queries a plus
• Intermediate to advanced experience in Excel a plus
• Solid communication and presentation skills. You will be responsible for translating complex technical concepts into layman’s terms
• Ability to think strategically based on the company’s forward vision. The role will involve notable independent decision making, so understanding the company’s strategy and vision and how that fits into your daily tasks is a must
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
• Excellent customer service skills required
• Regular, reliable and predictable attendance required
• Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment
• Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment criminal screen. Additional pre-employment driving and drug screens may be required based on job responsibilities
