Senior Rails Developer
Real HQ
(Austin, Texas)We build things that make buying and selling homes better. Our first creation is Agent Pronto, a service that helps home buyers and sellers find awesome real estate agents in their area. We're three years old and growing quickly. You can find us throughout the US and Canada.
You’re a seasoned Ruby on Rails developer who thrives in a flexible, self-directed environment. You have a history of delivering quality, scalable Ruby on Rails applications. You know what it’s like to be interrupted throughout your day and are excited to work with people that value the maker’s schedule. You transcend the left-brained developer stereotype, have an eye for design, and incorporate UX understanding into the things you build. Additionally:
- You’re self-motivated to learn and incorporate new technologies and keep up with best practices.
- You’re as comfortable writing code for the browser as you are code for the server.
- You’re proficient with MySQL (database and query optimization is a plus).
- You believe in the value of testing and rarely ship code without automated tests in place.
- You have strong communication skills and are receptive to constructive feedback.
- You have the ability to thoroughly, yet simply, explain features to everyday users.
- You can clearly articulate your thoughts and feelings through writing.
- You’re comfortable working on your own and are able to set ego aside when collaborating on features.
- You’re not afraid to ask for help.
We don’t separate “product” from “engineering”. Our dev team is the Product team, and we all take responsibility for defining features, collaborating on their design and implementation, and finally, announcing them to the team.
We build our products using the following tools and languages, and we’ll expect you to be proficient in each:
- Ruby, Ruby on Rails
- HTML (Haml)
- CSS (Sass)
- Javascript (jQuery, CoffeeScript, Ajax)
- Data stores (MySQL, Redis, Memcached)
- Testing tools (RSpec, Capybara)
- Continuous integration and deployment
- Linux
- Git
- Nice-to-haves: Bootstrap, Backbone.js
We communicate using Slack, Basecamp, Github, and Google Hangouts. Occasionally, we pair-code with Screenhero.
