Summary
Electronic Design, which is part of Penton’s Design Engineering & Sourcing Group, has served electrical engineers for more than 60 years across all markets. The brand is now looking for a new team member covering the communications and test and measurement technology spaces. The qualified individual will regularly produce digital content for the brand web site, a print publication, e-newsletters, and do regular blogs as well as social-medial postings on Twitter, Facebook, etc. with a goal of providing daily relevance. Such content will appear on the brand web site, a monthly print publication, e-newsletters, and more. As part of his or her normal duties, this editor also is expected to do regular blogs as well as social-medial postings on Twitter, Facebook, etc. Communications topics to be covered include cellular, short-range wireless, microwave/millimeter wave, industrial wireless, wired networking including Ethernet, broadband systems, and fiber optics with an emphasis on relevant semiconductor devices, components, equipment, and software. Test focus will include analyzers, generators, modular and handheld instrumentation, test software, and more as relevant to the technologies covered by the Electronic Design site.
Responsibilities
* Write articles, reports, and blogs on communications technology, products, news, and related topics for the website with some of that content funneled into monthly print edition. * Solicit and edit contributed articles from authors, PR firms, and companies. * Regularly attend industry conferences, trade shows, and other events as well as traveling for regional company visits, representing the publication and the company as required. * Conduct interviews of executives, engineers, and products at companies, conferences, or meetings when opportunities occur. * Develop, maintain, and utilize knowledge of industry trends, competitive environment, and Electronic Design's content vision. * Build relationships in industry to gain regular contributors to web site. * Cover business side of industry and find individuals who can contribute such features online.
Ideal Candidate
* College degree in Electrical Engineering * 1-2 years journalism/technical writing for digital outlets * Knowledge of basic HTML, Photoshop, and InDesign * Have a strong handle on best ways to use and leverage effective digital communications tools, from building a presence in social networks to developing multimedia elements * Adept multi-tasker and deadline-oriented * Motivated self-starter with ideas
