Summary

Under the leadership of the Development Manager, this position will plan and organize various fundraising and logistical projects to support the execution of the Northern California Walk MS 2015 campaign from January through April 2016.

Responsibilities

Fundraising (30% of time)

  • Support relationship building activities with event participants, top fundraisers, donors, leadership volunteers and others community partners
  • Distribute campaign materials in the assigned distribution areas
  • Research campaign donor, participant and sponsor prospects
  • Assist and support event staff in the solicitation of products, services and cash donations
  • Assist with and attend other chapter fundraising events and meetings
  • Assist in phone outreach to event participants

Public Education (5% of time)

  • Help produce thank you letters that communicate the mission of the National MS Society
  • Provide information about multiple sclerosis and chapter programs to participants, donors, volunteers and sponsors
  • Help increase awareness of program activities, research and issues relating to the Society and multiple sclerosis

Community Services (50% of time)

  • Support logistics efforts to ensure that staff, participants and volunteers have support in terms of communication, food and comfort
  • Assist in supply packing and pre-event organization
  • Manage various logistics projects throughout campaign including, but not limited to: day-of-event materials and event supply orders

Programs (5% of time)

  • Involve MS clients and family members in campaign/event activities
  • Keep current on client programs and services and research advance

Volunteer Engagement (10% of time)

  • We increase the number of Society volunteers, recognizing and recruiting talent (Managing Relationships, Being Open and Receptive)
  • We engage volunteers, effectively communicating and facilitating meaningful opportunities across all functions. (Communication)
  • We partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. (Getting Work Done through Others, Getting Organized, Managing Work Processes, and Overcoming Obstacles)
  • We cultivate volunteers, seeking and providing feedback and sharing opportunities for reciprocal growth and learning. We recognize the contributions of all volunteers. (Communication, Inspiring Others, People Management, Learning, Being Open and Receptive)
Ideal Candidate

Minimum Education:

  • HS Diploma

Minimum Experience/Skills/Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal and management skills.
  • Experience in fundraising or event management.
  • Interest in all aspects of planning large-scale events.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills. Flexible working hours; some nights and weekend work required.
  • Must be available on event weekends: April 18-19 and 25-26.

Technical/Other:

  • Dependable vehicle & current driver's license
  • Requires computer skills with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and MS Society databases.
  • Knowledge of Convio a plus
