The Machine Operator works in the manufacturing plant to meet production, quality, and service delivery goals. The Machine Operator will work through effective utilization of resources and is responsible for meeting or exceeding customer expectations through coordination, and value based leadership of manufacturing processes, organization and lean processes.
- Responsible for specific machine operation and related key performance measures of operation adhering to safe work practices
- Works with Team on floor activities for machine’s operation on the shift, completing work assignments congruent with operations schedules and communicated goals for shift
- Positions and secures work pieces on machines, measuring instruments and other tools to operate machine efficiently and safely.
- Facilitate a focus on continuous improvement through the application of lean manufacturing principles and quality control practices.
- Responsible for meeting quality requirements and maintaining quality standards for your specific area of responsibility.
- Work with department to ensure all processes, equipment, safety, and housekeeping of the areas, meeting productions quality and quality standards on the shift.
- Inspect product for defects and work closely with production operators and quality to identify root-causes and corrective actions to maintain Masonite quality standards.
- Participate in daily production meetings as required by management.
- Performs miscellaneous related duties and carries out special projects as assigned.
- Maximize efficiency by conducting effective shift change meetings
- Become Subject Matter Expert in home department
- A High School diploma. Two year trade school or Associate degree preferred.
- 3 - 5 years of manufacturing experience required. Preferably in the building products, construction or automotive markets.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Pulls/Pushes boxes of product on/off line and or pallets.
- Stand/walk for full work shift.
- Ability to listen and provide verbal directions to staff.
- Respond quickly to production line concerns by solving minor problems and requesting assistance for problems beyond their expertise.
- Basic training in Lean Sigma principles.
- Good interpersonal, organizational communication and mechanical skills required.
- Ability to work varying shifts and additional hours depending on business needs.
- Must be self-motivated and possess both cognitive and reasoning skills.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and math skills.
- Competent PC skills (Excel, Word, Power-Point, and Masonite systems knowledge Master-Pack, Kronos, & LMS.)
- Ability to interact with both management and hourly production staff.
- Experience with operating and training on material handling equipment. LMS certification in fork-lift if required.
- Desire to potentially move into greater areas of responsibility in the future.
