We’re looking for a content professional who can tell that story. Someone who can learn the nuances of our story, combine it with our unique approach and create the “addictive” content that will bring people back again and again. Not because it’s flashy or trendy, but because it’s based on fundamental truths about design and human behavior.

The person awarded this position will be responsible for developing a content calendar and filling it with great ideas that come out of the 80 or so design projects that Mary Cook Associates completes each year. Some of the stories will come from the designers in the field, some will be sourced through freelance writers, and some will be penned and photographed by you as you go out into the field with the design teams on installations, walk trade shows, or interview experts. Your stories will speak to consumers who are passionate about design and decorating, but also to our contract clients who are focused on the objectives and goals that great design can impact.

This content will be housed in a brand new website, but we will also offer it to other outlets—both web and print—who’s audiences might also get addicted to our message.

This role is 40% editor/content manager, 20% PR, 20% brand journalist and the rest helping MCA to present itself professionally.
- Our ideal candidate has already built a following for themselves or their employer. They understand the role of great visual and written content, social media and earned media in building a content brand; and now they want to take that talent and merge it with their passion for design and interiors. You need to be willing to work hard (you are a department of one), and smart, to build this from the ground up. If you have what it takes, you’ll be sitting on top of one of the great brands in shelter content with access to builders, designers and others who share your love of beautiful functional interiors.
Competencies include:

Ability to utilize content management systems like wordpress to add content to and manage a website.

Ability to drive traffic to content using SEO, social media and partnerships with other publishers..

Ability to use regular email to drive traffic back to a website and increase reader loyalty. .

Ability to develop PR leads and work with writers to get bylined articles published.

Ability to manage writers graphic designers and photographers to create compelling stories on the web.
Does Not Do:
- Work directly on interior design projects
Education/Experience:

Minimum Bachelors Degree in marketing, journalism or related field.

3-4 years in, marketing, publishing or other related environment.

Demonstrated writing, editing and social media skills.

Demonstrated communication skills.

Demonstrated project management skills.
