Quality Control Technician

Lehi Valley Trading Company is a family owned business based in East Mesa. We specialize in snack food wholesale, private labeling and retail brands. We have nearly 30 years of experience in the food industry and manufacture many of our items such as granola, popcorn, brittle and trail mix at our facilities.

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for performing standardized qualitative and quantitative tests to determine physical and chemical properties of food products.

* Records and compiles test results and reports. * Conducts standardized tests on manufactured food products, systems, and processes to ensure compliance with standards and regulations regarding parameters such as color, texture, or product attributes, water, air quality, and microbiological testing. * Maintains records of testing results and other documents as required by state or other governing agencies. * Tastes or smells foods to ensure that flavors meet specifications or to select samples with specific characteristics. * Monitors and documents temperatures of products and processes. * Analyzes test results to assure product compliance. * Provides assistance to managers in quality control and food safety, as required. * Trains newly hired production staff on quality standards and programs. * Supports and drives implementation of new SQF and food related programs in the production, packaging and warehouse areas. * Takes immediate corrective action when dealing with Food Safety and Food Quality issues and reports these issues to the Department Manager or Food Safety Manager for further action, if required. * The incumbent has the authority to take immediate corrective actions when dealing with Food Safety and Food Quality issues and is required to report these issues to the Department Manager or Food Safety Manager for further action, if required.

* High School diploma or equivalent is required. A Bachelor's degree in a science based program is a plus. * 4-5 years of experience, knowledge and skills in quality control of food products is desired. * Must have knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of food and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods. * Must have food safety knowledge and experience such as FDA, GMP, SQF, and HACCP. * Must have excellent communication skills both oral and written to convey information or ideas effectively and the ability demonstrate active listening skills. * Must have excellent skills in conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and troubleshoot and determine causes of operating errors and finding solutions. * Must have excellent interpersonal relationships to be able to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships across the business. Dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations. * Must have knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effectiveness of safe quality food. * Must have experience in motivating, and encouraging employees and build mutual trust, respect and cooperation among team members. Must also have some training/instructional experience appropriate to provide guidance to employees. * Must have excellent time management skills. * Must have excellent knowledge and skills in computers Excel, Outlook, Internet browsing and practical application of mathematics to solve problems. Must also have knowledge of reading technological laboratory results, analytical and compliance software as well as laboratory equipment. * Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
