Summary

A Design Engineer has the responsibility of creating new, and maintain existing designs and serve as a resource to support all engineering needs for new product development, production, customer matters, procurement, and inspection needs. As such, a Design Engineer will support the Sustaining Engineering Department with existing product support and after sale customer service engineering activities in coordination with Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, and Sales.

A Design Engineer will become an active part of the MRB process, help complete major/minor semi-annual submittals to the FAA and work directly with the other Engineering staff to obtain approvals for major product modifications as required.

Responsibilities
  • Support Development Engineering with new product certification activities
  • Support design activities by researching, recommending, or specifying components or technologies
  • Create and maintain engineering drawings and specifications for existing products in accordance with PMA and FAA regulations
  • Modernize existing products incorporating new technology to meet customer changing needs.
  • Redesign and certify components that are no longer feasible to produce, procure, or inspect.
  • Ensure engineering designs and drawings are procurable, producible and can be inspected within the manufacturing capabilities, or through outside vendors, use existing components or off-the-shelf components were practical.
  • Support Manufacturing Manager with manufacturing process specifications and production issues.
  • Support functional test activities
  • Support Customer Service Personnel
  • Provide feedback information to engineering staff concerning assembly and manufacturing success or difficulties, and/or effectiveness of technology, processes and designs.
  • Provide information for technical publications

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering discipline. Should be able to produce and interpret engineering drawings; should be able to conduct system functional tests; lead, or conduct system troubleshooting efforts.

  • Language Ability: Ability to communicate complex technical information in understandable form throughout all levels of the organization including customers and other external parties.
  • Math Ability: Ability to apply concepts of algebra, geometry, calculus, physics and business math.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardizations exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to break complex tasks into step by step instructions.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Must have ability to coordinate and orchestrate engineering and manufacturing functions in a team atmosphere to achieve business objectives and ensure functions work effectively and cohesively.
  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have solid knowledge of MS Office; Internet and Design software such as Inventor and Solid Works. Must be adept in JPG, PDF and other file formats. Utilize internet search tools effectively.
  • Certificates and Licenses: None required. However, willingness to obtain FAA certification designation if required by the Company at the Company’s expense.
