Director of Engineering

IXL is looking for a Director of Engineering who is passionate about using technology to improve education to lead our IXL Applications teams. IXL Applications includes our mobile, web, and business logic teams and gets to the heart of users' needs, developing innovative solutions and captivating experiences. You will lead them in developing and managing our popular learning product at IXL.com, with an immediate impact on millions of students and teachers every day.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and mentor a team of dynamic and talented engineers, engineering leads, and engineering managers
• Help shape the product direction, impacting the experiences for millions of students and teachers worldwide
• Develop and launch products and enhance existing products
• Identify market and customer opportunities
• Contribute to creating a great work environment by providing exemplary leadership and guidance to the team
• Find, hire and retain the best technical talent
• Work closely with the content, product, and UX teams to deliver highly impactful products

• 7+ years direct experience in software engineering
• 4+ years leadership experience
• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
• Solid software development experience
• Proficient in Java and full-stack web application development
• Strong communication and time-management skills
• Understanding of mobile development a plus
• Passion for improving education through technology
