Responsibilities
  • Conduct day-to-day media outreach by working closely with IIE management and senior staff to coordinate responses to inquiries and liaise with other IIE divisions and programs regarding their communications needs and assisting with determine the most appropriate forum for communications (press release, social media, event, etc.).
  • Write and post online materials and newsletters for press and public information regarding IIE activities.
  • Manage IIE’s twitter outreach related to media relations, and assist with other social media as needed.
  • Manage the coordination of the Open Doors briefing in Washington D.C. with the US Department of State. This includes but is not limited to preparing briefing materials, making logistical arrangements, and assisting with the creation of talking points.
  • Coordinate and prepare Open Doors fact sheets.
  • Develop talking points and key messages for IIE’s communications efforts
  • Coordinate/Manage/Assist with other IIE public information events, briefings, and campaigns.
  • Responsible for complying with applicable contract and sponsor requirements and following all IIE policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties and functions as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
  • Bachelor’s degree required and at least 2 years of experience with media outreach, writing press releases, journalism, or related.
  • Experience working in a press office at a university or another non-profit, corporation, agency or similar is preferred.
  • Experience linked to international issues, higher education and/or study abroad is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrates fast, efficient writing that is clear and concise.
  • Ability to summarize information and produce key points.
  • Website/CMS skills are preferred.
  • Microsoft office skills.
  • Demonstrates an ability to act with discretion and professionalism to work with senior management, sponsors, and media.
  • Works well across teams and divisions at all levels.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the job and to supporting the team.
