Principal Product Manager of Backup and Virtualization Products

EMC’s Data Protection and Availability division is looking for a Principal Product Manager to lead critical activities for a new emerging product. As the market develops, new products that capture multiple disciplines in data protection arise. As the product manager you will participate in analyzing the market, interacting with customers and partners and defining requirements. You will work with multiple product and engineering teams globally across EMC. In addition, you will be called to assist in go to market activities, business planning and executive engagements.
This is a high profile senior role that will require a disciplined work approach, creative problem-solving, excellent communication and presentation skills, plus the ability to interface effectively with diverse and demanding audiences (e.g. customers, EMC executives, global sales organizations, other product groups, partners, etc.). Technical background in backup technologies, virtualization and enterprise IT environments are required, as many of the discussions and decisions required good grasp of the technology. Experience with cloud, networking and with storage technologies is preferred. It is also a role with tremendous potential for growth and advancement if well-executed.
- Ability to travel (15% of time)
- Experience as a product manager, preferably in software, IT, or cloud industry
- Technical knowledge and/or experience in backup products and virtualization technologies
- Experience writing product requirements
- Possess customer-oriented thinking – being able to be in the “customer’s seat” and position/define benefits from customer perspective. Must be able to write collaterals from that angle.
- Excellent communications skills with the ability to motivate and influence in a matrix organization.
- "Can do” personality – always looking for ways to solve problems and overcome obstacles.
- Team player, but with the ability to work independently with partners and customers.
- Passion for technology.
- Experience with replication, cloud, networking, and/or storage technologies is desired.
