Summary

We are looking for looking for a highly skilled and motivated Front End Developer to join the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the U.S. Senate. We are seeking candidates who have knowledge and experience related to coding client-side/museum exhibit features of rich and dynamic web pages. The ideal candidate is passionate and experienced in the latest development strategies and frameworks for front end web development. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other project stakeholders such as; content developers from our Education Department, Marketing, and Development as well as with in-house IT and outsourced vendors as needed, and QA. They will be expected to manage multiple responsibilities independently, while adhering to established departmental technology standards both in back-end and front-end architecture. Additionally the Front End Developer maintains awareness and skill in emerging trends and technologies bringing new ideas and possibilities to the project team.

Responsibilities
  • Work alongside Design and Back-End development teams to code rich client experiences and intuitive interfaces for Mac Pro driven Safari-based exhibits, as well as Android-based tablets
  • Maintain a high awareness of industry trends and technologies with regards to front-end development
  • Develop with cross-browser, cross-platform, and cross-device compatibility in mind for future code reuse
  • Create and modify templates of existing exhibits
  • Participate in an on-call rotation during museum business hours
  • Other duties as assigned
Ideal Candidate
  • Excellent HTML5, XHTML, CSS3 programming skills
  • Strong JavaScript and JQuery skills
  • Experience using tools such as AngularJS, Scala, Play, Akka
  • Experience with Web services, protocols, web sockets, client-server architecture
  • Knowledge of NoSQL database: specifically MongoDB
  • Knowledge of standard information data exchange: JSON
  • Proficient with CSS Preprocessors such as Sass and LESS
  • Experience building for Responsive Design and Android web views
  • Experience with AOSP
  • Experience in troubleshooting/debugging code
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills
  • Curiosity for learning new technologies and methods

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience preferred
  • Prior coding experience as a front end web developer
  • Proven experience building responsive designs

  • 3+ years’ experience working in a creative and innovative environment
  • Strong communication skills, ability to collaborate with a diverse team
  • Passionate about using technology in innovative ways
  • Ability to define, prioritize, track and report on technological issues
  • Familiar with industry-standard practices, interfaces, operating systems and protocols
  • Must be able to occasionally work nights and/or weekends as needed to perform system maintenance, which would disrupt the users if performed during normal working hours
  • Participate in a staffing rotation that includes weekends
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry up a minimum of 30 lbs
  • Have strong attention to detail
  • Ability to self-manage multiple projects at once with little supervision
