Responsibilities

Working under the general direction of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, this position primarily works within Operations to improve productivity, efficiency, and safety through the implementation of industry best standards for light assembly. Also, works with other departments, including but not limited to Engineering and Supply Chain, to reach similar goals:

  • Develop production line balancing for varying staff levels for serial and cellular layouts in regards to new and existing products
  • Perform regular capacity analysis based on available forecast information
  • Use the DMAIC process/tools to identify and justify improvement projects
  • Define incoming part packaging – specifying returnable packaging where appropriate
  • Improve part presentation through flow racking, parts trays, ergonomic improvements, etc.
  • Assist the Documentation Specialist with documentation development based on station definition and line balancing
  • Maintain current routings in CRM/JDE and use both systems to determine what lines/products benefit the most from line balancing and improved part presentation
  • Continue the implementation of the component tracking system including quality auditing and QRM DAQ
  • Identify opportunities and develop solutions for improvements to ergonomics
  • Other functions as required and assigned by management
Ideal Candidate
  • 1-3 years of proven experience with Quick Response Manufacturing or Lean in a manufacturing environment
  • 4 year BSME, BSIE or equivalent degree required
  • Experience with cellular layout/methodology in regards to light assembly required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools required
  • Experience with brazing/welding operations preferred
  • Basic HVAC knowledge preferred
  • Experience with building automation software a plus
  • Knowledge of electrical/electronic components and equipment
  • Must be able to work well with all levels of personnel whether individually or in a team environment, and especially must be able to interface and communicate with line operators
  • Proficiency in working in a Windows environment – All Office programs; CRM is a plus
  • Basic database programming knowledge and utilization required (Access, SQL, etc)
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt a plus
  • Ability to lift, bend, good hand dexterity and visual inspection is required
  • Must be highly safety conscious
