Senior Food Scientist - Disruptive Innovation Team

As a Senior Food Scientist you partner with the team to develop ideas from white space identification, concept & business case development, go-to-market strategy, through in-market incubation launch. You will work with a group of similarly passionate individuals across Marketing, Consumer Insights, Culinary, Packaging, and Design to create end-to-end product + experience visions across a variety of North Stars for the company.
- Lead product development strategy and concept creation for new products including: identification of unmet consumer needs, trends, new product/package concepts, manufacturing strategy, and go-to-market strategy.
- Connect dots: develop competitively advantaged products by translating trends, unmet consumer needs, category and competitive activity, and technology and manufacturing capabilities.
- Inspire, lead, and influence cross functional teams, internal stakeholders, senior leaders, and external partners for disruptive new product initiatives
- Become a thought leader in disruptive product development
- Serve as an entrepreneurial & innovation ambassador to the organization capable of integrating activities across key functional partners
- Help to champion and build an innovation culture across RQI, with a special emphasis on building strong connections between Chicago and Omaha.
- Contribute to a creative, fast-working, autonomous and driven development team
- Provide judgment and technical expertise to assure that an appropriate level of technical discipline is employed in early-stage business decisions.
- Identify and approve potential ingredient, manufacturing and comanufacturing suppliers.
- Assist in facilitation of internal ideation and innovation sessions
- Assist in & lead projects to improve early innovation process – develop/validate tools for innovation
- 5+ years in product development and design. BS in Food Science or related field, MS preferred. demonstrated success and track record in new product development
- 5 years of work experience in holistic design and/or innovation.
- Experience in leading and developing a Design Thinking environment
- Willingness to roll up your sleeves and do whatever it takes to help your team win
- Strong team-orientation partnering with cross-functional team
- Ability to execute methodically while also thinking s trategically
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously
- Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills, to back up assumptions and develop business cases, including ability to document requirements and results
- Demonstrated ability to dive deep in understanding the product, our business, and the competitive landscape
- Ability to travel frequently to manage prototyping, scale up and commercialization
Physical Requirements:
- Exposure to manufacturing processes and equipment for periodic extended workdays.
- Ability to lift 25 to 50 lbs
- Driving a company or rental automobile 4 to 6 hours as needed
- Ability to stand for sit or stand for extended periods of time
- No significant food allergies
- Ability to travel up to 20% of time
- Drive a company or rental vehicle as needed
