Summary

Under supervision, conducts both varied and routine repetitive tests in laboratory, pilot plant, and production areas. Sets up, operates, disassembles, sanitizes, and reassembles testing equipment. Prepares for bench top, pilot plant or production testing in collaboration with Food Scientists and Pilot Plant Staff. Assist with product showings for staff and Senior Management. Acquire and effectively execute basic knowledge to test physical properties of foods.

Responsibilities
  • Taste and help evaluate a wide variety of food products.
  • Conduct bench top/pilot plant testing.
  • Set up, operate, disassemble, sanitize and reassemble equipment.
  • Prepare for pilot plant and production testing in collaboration with Food Scientist and staff.
  • Execute experiments using recognized procedures.
  • Acquire ingredients and supplies in advance for specific testing.
  • Manage the shipment of products and ingredients to various facilities and suppliers.
  • Assist in planning for multiple testing sequences and weighing various components.
  • Assist in product showings for staff and Senior Management.
  • Prepare food samples for submission to chemistry and micro laboratories.
  • Learn and utilize specification software program.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records (lab notebook).
  • General lab upkeep, cleaning and warehouse management.
Ideal Candidate

Position Requirements:

  • Interest in food and cooking. Ability to taste and help evaluate a wide variety of food products
  • Be curious and have an eagerness to learn and ask questions.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to to learn how to operate specialized lab equipment to test physical properties of food.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate well, follow directions, and effectively collaborate with others to accomplish goals.
  • Some air travel to domestic manufacturing facilities.
  • Proven ability to trust and rely on others, display a positive can do attitude in stressful situations, and to continually be personally accountable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Be on your feet for 3-4 hours continuously.
  • Driving a company or rental automobile 4 – 6 hours as needed.
  • Use of pilot plant equipment.
  • Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended work days to include: loud noise, heat, cold, wet and slippery conditions.
  • Ability to move safely and freely around machinery in both manufacturing and pilot plants.
