Graphic Designer

Columbia College Chicago is a creative liberal arts college focused on rigorous academics, hands-on learning, collaboration and career preparation.

• The primary responsibility of this position is to teach across the curriculum in the undergraduate Graphic Design program, and act as an instigator of cross-disciplinary relationships with other departments and programs including Product Design, Fashion Design, and Interactive Arts and Media.

• Responsibilities include: teaching 3 courses per semester, advising students, maintaining an active professional presence, and participating in curriculum development and committee service at the department and college level.

• The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the overall learning environment in the School, through occasional school-wide faculty lectures, informal discussions with students and faculty, advising undergraduate students, outreach opportunities, etc.

• Teaching and potential leadership within the cross-departmental Foundations Program is expected.

• A terminal professional degree (MFA, MDes, etc) and related professional experience within the Graphic Design profession (including print and digital media).

• Applicants must have previous teaching experience and should demonstrate excellence in teaching design within a professional graphic design/visual communication curriculum.

• The ability to unite industry standards with program coursework and the ability to teach and advise all levels of undergraduate students is required.

• Desired candidates should demonstrate excellence in design through substantial professional graphic design project experience.

• Previous experience developing and teaching within a graduate program, experience with and interest in user experience design, and affiliation and leadership with professional organizations (STA, AIGA, etc.) will be viewed favorably.
