Supports new product development activities in a R&D environment by researching and developing new components/assemblies, methods, and/or processes utilizing engineering principles.
- Develops, designs and builds prototypes for design review. Presents prototype and testing procedures for review.
- Troubleshoots more complex unit issues and identifies and/or replaces parts to repair. Investigates issues and develops countermeasures to prevent future occurrence.
- Develops process improvement initiatives and supports cost down activities for manufacturing process. Identifies alternate solutions based on feasibility, technology or other elements.
- Evaluates engineering test results for possible application to development of systems or other uses. Utilizes statistical analysis to ensure process is capable.
- Generates new concepts/designs and generates proof of concept.
- Reviews content of technical reports to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Trains less experienced Engineers on department processes or systems.
- Creates, maintains, and drives detailed project schedules across multiple disciplines. Leads projects and/or small teams.
- Confers with division management, production, QA staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, reliability & manufacturability to new and existing products. Confers with research personnel and/or the customer to clarify or resolve problems of design.
- Prepares proposals (including recommended suppliers, parts pricing, alternative implementation strategies, and timeline/schedule) for submission to customer. Provides guidance and answers technical questions during proposal meetings.
- Performs complex statistical analysis of data for complex processes and draws appropriate conclusions.
- Reviews technical reports prepared by less experienced Engineers and provides feedback.
- Mentors and trains less experienced Engineers.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5-8 years’ experience in research and development, medical or related field.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to create and present presentations and/or technical papers to management within and outside of Canon Virginia.
- Fluent in a 3D CAD Package (i.e. Solid Works or ProEngineer).
- Requires strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a project team environment.
