System Administrator

Under minimal supervision, the system administrator will be responsible for administering the Windows systems and applications running on them. The management and oversight of these systems is the primary responsibility of the system administrator. As such, the system administrator needs a strong technical understanding of the Windows environment and server administration.

• Monitor Windows servers for performance issues and stability
• Analyze inefficiencies in the Windows server environment from a holistic view and assist in remediation
• Perform application installation and configuration
• Perform day-to-day administration: Active Directory, Group Policy, server setup, log review, etc.
• Troubleshoot hardware and software issues
• Work with and troubleshoot the following, including but not limited to: SMTP, SNMP, SNTP, POP, FTP, SSL, SSH, HTTP, HTTPS, Telnet, SFTP, DNS, RDP, TCP, ICMP and UDP
• Use the knowledge of the above listed protocols to troubleshoot, support and maintain the current and future environment
• Work with basic applications: backups, patches, Microsoft SQL, MS Office Suite, MS System Center suite and other client-specific applications
• Work effectively and efficiently with permissions in Microsoft Server 2008R2, 2012, 2012R2
• Document identified issues and create appropriate remediation plans
• Effectively execute project and remediation plans in a timely manner
• Understanding of terminal services/remote application configuration, deployment and support

Operational Management

• Effectively execute assigned tasks
• Collaborate with infrastructure teams to implement and maintain approved systems and applications
• Work within a project management-based task system

Certifications / Exams:

• Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate or Above

Formal Education & Certification

• College diploma or university degree (or equivalent experience) in the field of computer science, information systems or computer engineering

Knowledge & Experience

• 5 years of relevant work experience
• Extensive experience with IT communication protocols and services
• Extensive experience with managing and administering Windows
• Working knowledge of Windows backup and patching strategies
• Working knowledge of Windows applications
• Strong knowledge of hardware and software maintenance and configuration
• Exceptional analytical, conceptual and problem-solving abilities
• Working knowledge of virtualization technologies like vSphere, Hyper-V and KVM
• Working knowledge of certificates and PKI environments
• Extensive experience with multisite IT infrastructure environments
• Working knowledge of scripting languages
• Working understanding of cloud products like MS Azure or Amazon AWS
