Summary

The Storage Engineer will be primarily focused on designing and building tools and services to support and manage the diverse environments which are used by operations, developers, research, and corporate. The ideal candidate has a passion for solving big challenges, is passionate about the cloud and is strong proponent that nearly everything in the cloud should be expressed as code in the cloud.

Responsibilities
  • Lead in the design and development of Biogen’s next generation Storage Platforms.
  • Participate in the design and development of Biogen Cloud services and tools focusing on automation and orchestration.
  • Develop, implement and document solid, scalable and flexible solutions to support Biogen teams migrating, transforming, and/or developing applications in the Biogen cloud.
  • Self-Starter, eager to learn new technologies in a fast pace environment.
  • Share, evangelize, and practice cloud development best practices and culture with business application and development teams.
  • Document, partner, and share templates, techniques, and artifacts with other development teams around Biogen
  • Be a leader helping to drive the Biogen IT vision and a key contributor toward delivering upon the Biogen IT Strategy

  • Self-Starter, eager to learn new technologies in a fast pace environment and work in multiple technology domains.
  • Software Defined Networking Principles
  • Experience with the following technologies: EMC storage suite, Netapp, Isilon, Data Domain, NexSan, Avere, Hyper Converged Environments, Brocade SAN Switching
  • Expertise of network, storage protocols, Internet standards including TCP, UDP, SNMP, SMTP, SSL, PKI , CIFS, NFS, SAN and others.
  • Hands on experience designing and implementing solutions leveraging multiple services within public cloud providers via provider and/or cross platform APIs (e.g. AWS and/or Azure)
  • Demonstrated Hands On Experience Developing Solutions with Cloud Orchestration Tools (Chef, Puppet, CFEngine, etc.) -Certification a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise developing software, scripts, and or services for the cloud in at least one of the following: PowerShell, JAVA Ruby, Python, PHP, Go, Perl, Scala or similar language.
  • Understanding of Enterprise DevOps experience
  • Demonstrated Experience with the Software Development Lifecycle and Associated Tools
  • Strong team player with demonstrated customer focus - evaluates decisions through the eyes of the customer; builds strong customer relationships; creates processes with customer viewpoint; partners with customers to help shape their future initiatives
  • Strong analytical and strong problem solving skills - communicates in a clear and succinct manner and effectively evaluates information/data to make decisions; anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve; creates actionable strategies and operational plans

Qualifications

  • 5+ years platform management experience, 3+ years collaborating closely with technical infrastructure teams.
  • Working demonstrable knowledge of the following topics: server virtualization, storage, VDI, application delivery, and cloud solutions.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Other desirable skills include:
    • Previous experience building and/or testing software applications, and supporting dynamic application environments.
    • High comfort level with modern database, web, and collaborative technologies

Education

  • BA/BS in computer science, engineering or related technical disciplines
