UX Designer

Job Description

• We are looking for an experienced UX Designer to come help us on select projects over the course of the next 3-4 months. This is a temporary contract position that could result in a full-time offer. You will work from our office and closely with our project teams.

• UX designers at Barrel are an integral part of our projects, from conceptualization through to completion. They have strong interests and capabilities in the design and development of intuitive and engaging user experiences. They thrive in a work environment that requires detail oriented problem solving skills and independent self-direction, coupled with an aptitude for team collaboration and open communication. They excel at providing both highly analytical as well as highly creative ideas to a design engagement and can clearly communicate design solutions to fellow team members as well as clients.

Responsibilities:

• Advocate principles of usability and user centered design
• Research and understand client objectives and project goals and articulate them clearly
• Create and refine website structures that are simple and elegant and focus on users, goals, and value-adding experiences
• Define content strategy and manage a client-facing content collection process
• Communicate project functionality requirements (via sketches, wireframes, annotations, in-person chats, etc) to all members of the team
• Consult, oversee, and work closely with visual designers to make sure visual design is properly informed by UX
• Actively partake in quality assurance testing throughout a project’s lifecycle to ensure Barrel standards are met
• Investigate conversion data and analytics to generate insights that evaluate designs and fuel ideation
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee usability studies that provide insights into user behavior and attitudes and inform opportunities for improvement

• At least 3 years of experience working at an agency or client services setting in a user experience role
• Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills especially when talking about strategy, experience, and design
• Ability to think at a high level about strategy to help clients fulfill their objectives and for our company to add additional value as a partner
• Strong detail oriented problem solver who can take broad, conceptual ideas and turn them into something useful and valuable
• Expertise in areas of research including market or industry research, design research, and quantitative research
• Avid interest in technology with the ability to work alongside developers, producers, and designers
• Experience working with content management systems such as WordPress, Shopify, or Drupal
• Strong understanding of third party applications and platforms as well as integrations
• Working knowledge of HTML/CSS/Javascript
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
