AT&T NGEN (Navy) Communications Network Engineer Senior is responsible for supporting network design, operational support, hands-on implementing and configuration of network devices.
- Analyze and drive to root cause of problems.
- Design, test, and recommended solution changes both problems and projects.
- Develop workarounds to reduce or eliminate the impact of a problem or incident for which a full resolution is not yet available.
- Build bundles and configurations to support solution changes and workarounds.
- Provide both proactive and reactive Service Level Requirement (SLR) data analysis. Identify systemic trends, develop and design mitigation strategies and plans to ensure SLR agreements are met.
- Participate or lead special or high visibility projects that may require solution workarounds or design changes.
- Function as shift escalation point for both Incident Response and Problem Management issues when the shift runs out of technical options or when the requirement for management-level situation awareness become unusually high, or otherwise at the discretion of the NOC Manager. Act as a staffing reserve backfilling the shift on a short term or intermediate term or until the staffing deficiency is corrected as required by the NOC Manager.
- Provide technical mentoring to all Watch Staff Shift resources through the creation, improvement and proctoring of training and engineering labs.
- Provide direct one-on-one coaching and mentoring as required by the NOC Manager.
- Required to learn new technologies that will be implemented and training and coaching the Watch Staff team members the new technology.
- These responsibilities in addition to other duties may be assigned as necessary by the NOC Manager
- Ten plus (10+) years of experience that includes network design, operational support, hands-on implementing and configuration of network devices such as servers, routers, hubs, switches, NICs, VPNs, WAN Accelerators, IPS, associated software tools, desktop computers, and cabling in a large LAN/MAN/BAN/WAN environment. As well as knowledge of TCP/IP protocols.
- Experience with secure networks, specifically Intel Community standards.
- Knowledge of GigE, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP and ATM is necessary.
- Strong knowledge of trouble ticketing software (HPSM) and networking monitoring solutions (NNMi w/iSPI, HP NA) a must.
- Previous experience working on military bases/sites, including previous military service highly desirable.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in computer and/or networking field preferred. CCNP required, CCIE Written preferred.
Skills:
- Strong communications, writing and editing skills needed to transfer information to individuals involved in the networking process.
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work in an organized fashion with focus on documented activity.
