The Company designs, manufactures and sells flooring products (resilient and wood) and ceiling systems (mineral fiber, fiberglass and metal) globally. The Company segments includes: Building Products, Resilient Flooring and Wood Flooring.
The Research Technician will provide support to our Performance Materials Innovation organization. Additionally, the Research Technician will be a part of a multi-disciplinary team with responsibility for delivering new and exciting technologies / products to the market.
- Providing support to Performance Materials Innovation teams to develop innovative coating, adhesive, material, and etc. systems for AWI business
- Actively and collaboratively working with team members to create solutions and solve the problems
- Preparing and testing new coatings, adhesives, and materials in the laboratory, applying the new materials through various application methods
- Organizing /preparing coating materials, conducting pilot tests, and evaluating sample performance
- Creating samples, running tests, and collecting data in an accurate and safe manner using sound technical and data analysis principles
- Recommending procedure / process changes necessary to accelerate and optimize coating, adhesive, and material development
- Evaluating existing and new materials, observing and identifying abnormal performance, providing feedback and input for the teams.
- Conducting and supporting manufacturing qualification trials at our manufacture or vendor locations
- Managing material inventory and arranging test materials
Required Qualifications for the Research Technician:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years of applicable work experience in the research and manufacturing environment
- Must be comfortable working with laboratory (wet chemistry), shop (mechanical), and test / measurement equipment
- Proven ability to adapt and learn new techniques rapidly
- Self-motivated starter, action / result oriented, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Demonstrated ability to collaboratively work in team environment

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift a minimum of up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to operate spray gun
Desired Qualifications for the Research Technician:
- Associate’s Degree in Chemistry or other related technical field
- Demonstrate understanding of good laboratory practices with regard to conducting experiments and collecting data
- 3+ years of experience working in a laboratory or manufacturing environment preferably in coatings technology, lamination, papermaking, or woodworking.
- Ability to prepare test plan, collect /analyze / summarize the data, and write a report.
- Utilizing LEAN principles to improve overall effectiveness of assigned activities
