The Akamai Custom Government Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer interested in managing our Data Network for Analytics (DNA) system, which provides the framework for real-time and historical data analysis on the Akamai platform within the public sector. DNA is currently tailored to support the Security Monitor product, which enables real-time analysis of Web Application Firewall activity throughout our platform. You will be responsible for mastering all aspects of DNA. In addition, you will also focus on security and data research on the platform. This is a great opportunity for an individual with a strong systems background, an interest in data analysis and security, and a desire to work on a diverse range of technologies.
- Becoming an expert of the Akamai DNA network.
- Integrating Akamai’s proprietary DNA software into the Public Sector enterprise environment.
- Working with Operations to implement software updates and to resolve issues on the platform.
- Working with others in the Engineering, Operations and Service Reliability teams to implement existing and new web application firewall heuristics.
- Researching insider threats and other security challenges.
- Partnering with the Service Reliability Team for platform wide improvement efforts.
- Using deep data analysis to help shape new areas of investment.
- Interacting and participate with the Custom Analytics team and the larger Akamai ecosystem for potential new initiatives and collaboration.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; OR at least 3 years of relevant experience
Required Skills:
- 3+ years experience working in a Linux/UNIX environment, preferably with an emphasis on distributed systems and or systems administration.
- 3+ years experience with at least one of the following: Java, Perl, Python, Ruby, or Shell scripting.
- Strong background in network and data analytics
Desired Skills
- Working knowledge of network protocols and web related technologies (HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, etc.)
- Experience with database systems and complex SQL statements.
- Experience with web application firewall and security threats, challenges, and vulnerabilities.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to effectively collaborate and engage others
- Self-motivated, strong work ethic, and a positive attitude.
