As a Business Intelligence Engineer at 2U, you will help to build critical ETL flows within the larger data universe in the company.
- Survey stakeholders to gather business requirements in order to properly (re)architect new or existing data model
- Work with Data Modelers and Data Scientists to design solutions to building ETL data flows
- Implement ETL flows following standards and techniques specified by the development team
- Source systems include web sources (REST/SOAP), SQL databases, and NoSQL databases
- Thoroughly test ETL flows and participating in user acceptance testing (UAT)
- Assist in the deployment and strive to construct automated build and deployment systems
- Develop reports and/or report queries that are based on the data flows you implement
- Deep understanding of relational databases, especially PostgreSQL, although working experience with other SQL database systems is sufficient
- High comfort level with basic data modeling in 3NF and dimensional models
- Software development experience with at least one programming language, e.g. Python
- Experience with traditional ETL systems such as Informatica, SSIS, Kettle, and/or experience using cloud based systems such as SnapLogic or Informatica Cloud
- Polished written and verbal communication skills, and does not let ego get in the way of discussing solutions and helping others
- Experience working in a security-focused environment - knowledge of data security is a must
- Experience working with BI and visualization tools such as Tableau, OBIEE, and report creation environments such as Jaspersoft and SSRS
- Loves futzing with data and dreams of becoming a Data Scientist some day (or maybe already is a Data Scientist!)
- Knowledge of R and/or Python based data programming skills is a definite plus
- Enjoys working with open source tools
